An endorsement from Andy Torbet
After completing a degree in Zoology Andy spent 10 years in the British Forces as a Paratrooper, Diver and Bomb Disposal Officer, including serving with the Airborne Brigade, Army’s Underwater Bomb Disposal Team and the Maritime Counter Terrorist Group. He was involved in operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Northern Ireland and The Falklands.
Andy is a highly qualified Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor and member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors with new routes and first ascents in the UK, Canada and Pakistan. As well as rock climbing around the world he's ice climbed from Scotland to Greenland and on icebergs in the Arctic Ocean.
A keen skydiver he had the opportunity to perform a HAHO (High Altitude High Opening) jump for BBC's Cloud Lab. Andy jumped solo from 28,000ft over the Arizona desert with various scientific collection apparatus strapped to his chest and arms.
He is further a highly qualified, experienced and respected cave, deep mixed gas and commercial diver as well as a free diver with a passion for exploration whether it's exploring new underwater cave systems, new species or new shipwrecks and especially in those area difficult to reach which may require him to combine his elite diving knowledge with his other technical skills.
He also holds qualifications as a kayak guide and caver.
Since growing up in the wilds of Scotland Andy has always had a fascination with the natural world. Although his diving has exposed him to some amazing marine biology he maintains varied interests in wildlife, specialising in the evolution and behavioral ecology of Carnivores at university studying for his BSc (Hons) degree in Zoology.
